| ELECTRONIC SECURITY
|
|
Work is currently underway to equip your building with
an electronic security system which will consist of car readers
and prop monitors. Card readers will read the magnetic stripe
on your student identification card to grant access to residents,
staff, and authorized others. Prop monitors will sense whether
exterior doors and interior security doors are closed and
latched securely, and will sound horns to notify residents
and staff if they are not. In most cases, closing the door
will silence the horn. Some special application locks and
horns must be reset by a staff member.

| HEAT |
| Old Leonardtown has a self-contained electrical
heating/cooling system. A wall-mounted unit blows air throughout
the room. There is an electrical three-way junction box near
the unit; one position is for air conditioning, one is for neutral,
and one is for heat. It is important that this unit not be blocked
by a bed or piece of large furniture. This would block the air
flow to the unit, compromising its heating/cooling ability.
New Leonardtown has an air handler heating/cooling system.
A thermostat is located in the common area of your apartment
which will both tell you the current temperature within the
apartment and allow you to regulate the temperature. The air
handler unit is contained within a room located in the hallway.
It has louver doors which should not be blocked. This is not
a storage room and no personal or University items should
be placed within the room.
